What is the LAVA project all about?
The LAVA Project is a partnership between:

-
Two schools in Varde - Brorsonskolen and Nr. Nebel Skole

Centre for Undervisningsmidler (CFU) - an education and resource centre in Varde
-
Children and Young Persons' Task Group in Laois
The overall aim of the project is to identify the key variables that seem to facilitate or hinder a smooth transition for students between primary and secondary school in terms of their;
-
overall learning and achievement
-
social development / adjustment
-
development of positive attitudes towards school, learning and achievement
-
Through regional cooperation, we plan to enable school authorities to share inclusive approaches to teaching and learning, ways of improving performance and motivation, and to identify and pilot effective responses to challenges such as young students losing interest in school (school fatigue) or early school leaving.
We will cooperate to develop and pilot materials that can be used in both countries, which will enable teachers/management to promote positive school experience, and will equip teachers with the skills/tools to detect, prevent and manage school fatigue.
What are the objectives of the project?
-
To promote inclusive education in schools
-
To research and produce materials that can be used in the classroom to promote positive classroom experiences
-
To share examples of good practice
-
To identify and respond to the needs of teachers and other staff through in-service training
-
To research and produce a pack for schools to support students in the transition from primary school to secondary school
-
To develop a training programme The Economics of Staying in School which will introduce at-risk students to the benefits of education through a series of planned activities
-
To build relationships between the regions of the two countries
-
To get acquainted with the education system of the partners
